"50,000 years ago, there are not even a million people on the planet. 10,000 years ago, there's, like, two million people on the planet. Now there's between five and six billion people on the planet, right? Now, if we all have our own, like, individual, unique soul, right, where do they all come from? You know, are modern souls only a fraction of the original souls? 'Cause if they are, that represents a 5,000 to 1 split of each soul in the last 50,000 years, which is, like, a blip in the Earth's time. You know, so at best we're like these tiny fractions of people, you know, walking…I mean, is that why we're so scattered? You know, is that why we're all so specialized?:

Interesting thought.What do you think?

A tinier than tiny fraction we are!
Earth has been around a few billion years, and the humans - for a few thousands.. we are just a passerby on the planet where other creatures also passed by millions of years ago, like Dinasaurs for example.
Is it then, any wonder that we are so scattered?
Ethan Hawke is cute. :-))
Isn't the whole film dotted with such phrases? It's been a while so don't remember much.
On the lines, if you look at it optimistically, I'd say it's progression. What 1 entity can do a few million years ago, at the advancement thats happening, we just need 1/1000th of it to do the same and do it even better.
Life is like that, once we stop moving we are dead. my 2 cents.
i recently leaned we are actually from the family of first mammal, the rodent which survived a great deal of turmoil...what a lineage!
but i think cockroaches will have the last laugh.
interesting indeed. ... with doomsday prediction- don't know where we r headed
50,000 years hence, the human souls would shrink down by further 5000 times. The shattered trillions will have to seek shelter in the sea only as the land portion would have been fully occupied. I shudder to imagine what would happen if other creatures, insects and animals too multiply in the same proportion.
such a tiny fraction but we weild so much power- really sad it is not always to good effect
complex yet humbling thought!
Hi all, Thanks for the interesting inputs. In my understanding, the soul in each of us is a tiny bit of an inexhaustible energy source called Brahman. So there is no fractioning.
On one level we may be scattered while at another level we are much more connected than ever before. And specialisation is a move towards greater efficiency which lets us derive maximum benefit from ourselves and the world around.
Heard this intersting take on the 33 crore hindu gods funda, viz., that at the time the texts mentioning the 33 crore "devas" were written, this number was the entire population of the world. In essence, what the ancients were saying was that EVERYONE was and is divine. I know this is kinda tangential to your post, but that's what the "fractioned souls" reminded me of.
Not at all tangential - that is exactly my point when I said before that in my understanding, the soul in each of us is a tiny bit of an inexhaustible energy source called Brahman.
